Changes at your GP surgery: how care improvements will benefit patients

Following patient feedback, the NHS has committed to making it easier and quicker for you to get the help you need from your GP and the healthcare community around your surgery. Our new booklet explains what changes and improvements you may see.
A doctor is looking inside the ear of a young girl. The girl's father is with her in the doctor's office.

The booklet contains:

  • information about the GP Access Recovery Plan and what it means for you;
  • the roles of the various qualified health professionals who will be able to support you and offer care at your GP surgery;
  • information about changes at your pharmacy;
  • survey results - what 325 people thought was good about their GP surgery and what could be improved;
  • positive initiatives already happening in the local area.

"What an amazing publication."

- Chair of local Patient Participation Group

Changes at your GP surgery: how care improvements will benefit patients

We would like to acknowledge the support of all those involved in the project. A huge thank you to everyone who completed the survey, service providers who have helped us create this booklet, and those who are featured as case studies for sharing their experience and insights with us.

What is the GP access recovery plan?

It’s an NHS commitment to tackle the issues you’ve told us about, and the things that don’t work.

"I get results and messages by text but no follow up or proper explanation of what they are testing for."

- Service user

The plan aims to take the pressure off the ‘8am rush’, and make it easier and quicker for you to get the help you need from primary care.

Primary care services provide the first point of contact in the healthcare system, acting as the ‘front door’ of the NHS. Primary care includes general practice (GP), community pharmacy, dental, and optometry (eye health) services.
